It stays locked in until you decide to remove it.  Period!  Also included is a DOTS Lok or Combat Lok belt clip.  No one else offers this. : Here at YHCO we will tell you some things that other makers may not.  So, Generally,when it comes to production style knives, my "mold knife" here at the shop, is generally, the "same" as your knife. However, there can be slight differences between the various lots of knives, that can affect fit/retention. Generally, my knife does a good job of it and your knife will likely fit fairly well.
Having said that, I cannot absolutely guarantee our famous perfect fit/retention/finish, unless i mold the sheath with YOUR knife. I recommend sending it in to us if you are a stickler for relative perfection.
