The MA58’s “angles” are the lamp illuminates the surface from an angle of 45º; this is the Incident light.
The specular, or gloss angle is also 45º from the surface. Optical pickups are located back from the specular at angles of 25º, 45º, and 75º.  The higher a surface’s gloss, the darker and less saturated it will appear as the angle increases.

General Description

Specifications
It measures color under D65/10 in L*,a*, b* units at three angles:  25, 45 and 75 (aka Flash, Face & Flop) using a 45 degree light source.
This instrument is used to measure the color characteristics of paints etc. whose color varies by viewing angle, such as metallic paints.  The three angles in the instrument give their respective values.
